J. Richard Secor, works primarily in acrylic, enjoying the texture, vibrant color, freedom and exuberance of this medium. His hope is to create an image that evokes a mood or a memory that brings pleasure to the viewer. J. Richard is known for his use of bold, striking colors applied with both brush and palette knife in a free and loose manner. His paintings are collected by corporations and individuals worldwide.
Originally from New England, and owner of The School Street Gallery in East Boothbay Maine, Secor now resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife Melissa, a freelance writer and Yoga instructor.
Secor is well recognized throughout the southwest for his fine art aspen paintings mostly done Plein air in the mountains surrounding Santa Fe New Mexico. Vibrant & lively colors applied with passion and a free flowing exhuberance in a Santa Fean Impressionistic style to the melodic guitar sounds of Esteban and Ottmar Liebert.

Secor has been juried in as a participating artist into the NOMADAS del ARTE Plein Air Exhibit/Sale for 2009-2010. This is a 12-month exhibit in 6 states, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Utah, consisting of 200 juried artists selected from a highly competitive field of artists in the southwest. The artists may paint and submit 2 paintings done in any of the 6 states at any time throughout the calendar year of 2009. The exhibit/sale starts out in Amarillo Texas during the month of April 2010 and tours the southwest until April 2011.

Secor will be in the Humanities Gallery on the college campus with a solo exhibit with the opening reception the evening of 10/08/09 and the exhibit will run until 11/06/09
Echo Canyon Gallery - Flagstaff Arizona
Secor will be part of a fall exhibit to be presented mid September into October. Exact dates will be published as soon as they are determined.
The Art Center At Fuller Lodge - Los Alamos New Mexico
Secor will be exhibiting as part of a juried exhibit at the Fuller Lodge.
